Last week we saw how the Bible is one unified story that leads to Jesus. We also saw how it is a revolutionary book that calls us not to conform to the world but to transform the world with God’s unfailing love. Interestingly enough, this week I came across the following article that depicts a good description of what God’s call to revolution and resistance to evil looks like.
What did resistance to a violent empire look like to early Christians?
1. Faithfulness to Christ as King and no other.
2. Gathering together regularly to share meals and fellowship.
3. Caring for the stranger, the widows, and the poor.
4. Living with joy and gratitude despite circumstances.
5. Repaying good for evil.
6. Practicing generosity towards the needy and the sick.
7. Showing kindness even to their enemies.
8. Devotion to scripture and teachings of Jesus and his disciples.
9. Choosing simplicity over excess.
10. Praying daily with persistence.
This Sunday we will tale a closer look at #6 in particular and see how the spiritual discipline of generosity keeps us spiritually fit and in tune with God’s very nature.
