Tough Questions: This week – “What about other religions? Is Jesus the only way to God?”
Religion can be defined as a specific belief system about God or gods expressed through a code of conduct, ethics, forms of worship, and rituals. Religion includes social, ethical, and ceremonial elements combined with the belief in an unseen world and often a deity.
In broad terms, the role of religion is to help people understand the reasons and purpose for their existence in the world, answer questions about the origins of life, explain the afterlife and spiritual realm, define the nature of deity, clarify if God exists, who He is, and how humans can relate to Him. In essence, religion is the search to know God and why we exist.
85% of the world’s population identifies with some religious group. Although there are 1000’s of religions, the majority associate with the top 5: Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and of course, Christianity (which makes up about 30%.).
But suppose Christianity was not really meant to be a religion. Wait. What? If we truly believe Jesus is the only way to God, perhaps following His way is something much more than a world religion. Perhaps Jesus is the answer to all religions.
Come and see, Pastor Rob
