Remember the commercials with the tag line, “Wanna get away?” The question usually followed some of life’s most embarrassing moments and promised that Southwest Airlines could help you escape it all.
Everyone needs to get away, even Jesus. “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” (Luke 5:16) In those lonely places His spirit was renewed and prepared for the challenges of the road ahead.
Everyone gets there at some point. A moment when energy runs out and enough is, well, enough. Serving has left the servant depleted. At times, life has drained all of the energy from body and soul. In times like these, the Lord sent His angel to care for Elijah’s physical needs, and then He called Elijah to come away to meet with Him so that He personally could restore Elijah spiritually.
The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”—1 Kings 19:11
