Our Lenten journey continues focusing on the Beatitudes of Jesus:
Taste and See: Then be Filled — Messages on the Beatitudes – Matthew 5:1-12
This week we will encounter the next two steps of the journey:
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”Matthew 5:6-7 NIV
Now I am always grateful when God provides help with my messages…. sometimes that is. Take for instance when I was preparing the message on “blessed are those who mourn.” Last week. To help me mourn, Duke ( my alma mater), got upset by Va. Tech for the ACC title. Much, much worse, we lost to our arch-rival, North Carolina, in the last game of the regular season. Thank you, Lord 🙄.
So you can well understand my concern how God will help me as I work on what Jesus means by being both hungry and merciful. Am I truly hungry for God’s righteousness? Do I honestly want what God wants?
I am continuing to discover that God cannot fill a cup that is already full. God desires to fill the hunger and emptiness in our lives but we must first be emptied of all the stuff that will never fully satisfy our souls. Whatever we might try to fill the emptiness of our lives, Jesus has a much better offer. So if you want to experience the real excitement of March Madness….
Come and see, Pastor Rob
