Advent is the first season of the Christian church year, leading up to Christmas and including the four preceding Sundays.
“The Best laid plans of mice and men often go awry” Robert Burns
We like things to go according to plan, right? We prefer a safe predictable, orderly, problem-free life – right? And of course (if you’ve lived long enough), we know, it ain’t gonna happen! Right?
As Dr. Phil often asked, “How’s that working for you?”
Just like every young couple about to start a family, Mary and Joseph had plans. However, God had something else in mind, and before you could say, “Merry Christmas”, our savior is born!
Mary and Joe still have a lot to teach us today. For example, instead of yearning for a problem-free life (which we have already established doesn’t exist), can we learn to trust God in the face of whatever challenges or roadblocks interfere with our plans.
Do we truly believe God has a plan to give us hope and a future and that nothing can separate us from God’s plan? So, perhaps when things do not go according to our plan, God has a better one.
Come and see, Pastor Rob
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
